The recent government announcement has allowed professional services and consultation firms to operate under Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) subject to the approval of the regulatory authorities which governing such professional services.

In this regards, the Ministry of International Trade & Industry (MITI) had recognized company secretarial services to be listed under the professional services and consultation, thus allowing company secretarial firms to apply to MITI to operate for the purpose of rendering company secretarial services.
3. Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia (SSM) as the regulatory body that regulates company secretaries under the Companies Act 2016 has been designated as the approving authority for such application by company secretarial firms. Approved firms must strictly adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP) issued by Majlis Keselamatan Negara (MKN) dated 25 August 2021 and/or other relevant SOPs issued by MKN from time to time.

In this regards, members of the approved bodies listed under the Fourth Schedule of the Companies Act 2016 may submit an application for their company secretarial firm should they wish to operate from their respective business premise. 5. SSM implores all practitioners to comply with the requirements set by MITI and the SOPs issued by the MKN to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is hoped that by the reopening of this sector, company secretarial firms can continue to play its role in supporting the corporate sector especially SMEs, in reviving the country's economy.
